Between Dec. 24 and Jan. 6, 12 Worcester School District employees, who had district building access, reported positive COVID-19 cases, said the state’s weekly school-based pandemic tracker.
Among the top 10 school districts across Massachusetts with the most faculty and staff reporting COVID-19 infections are Ludlow and Holyoke. Both districts are each reporting 5 faculty and staff members with COVID-19.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has been keeping a running tally of how many students and staff/faculty have become ill with COVID-19. Data is tracked only for students and staff that had access to a district building within the last seven days. The data does not include the number of people in quarantine per district.
There were fewer students than school employees reporting COVID-19 incidents.
Statewide there were 178 students and 253 employees who had access to school buildings and reported coming down with COVID-19 between Dec. 24 and Jan. 6.
LOCAL NUMBERS
Other area communities that had faculty and staff suffering from COVID-19 are Chicopee and Spencer-East Brookfield. which each had 4 faculty and staff reporting infections between Dec. 24 and Jan. 6.
Shrewsbury, Hopedale, Belchertown, Southbridge, Springfield, Sutton, Westborough, Westhampton, Chesterfield-Goshen, and Wachusett each reported having 1 staff or faculty with COVID-19, as well.
No other Central or Western Massachusetts school districts reported employees with building access who were sick with COVID-19.
STUDENTS
There were fewer students than faculty and staff in Central and Western Massachusetts reporting COVID-19 incidents. The local school district with the most sick-students was Shrewsbury with 4 reported student incidents between Dec. 24 and Jan. 6.
Other districts with COVID-19 ill students were: East Longmeadow 2 students, Uxbridge 2, Mendon-Upton 2, Ludlow 1, Belchertown 1, Hopedale 1, Southbridge 1, Millbury 1, Winchendon 1, Hampshire Regional, 1, Pathfinder Regional Voke 1, Southern Worcester County Regional Voke 1.
